Contact Admin. With its vast central icecap and rugged, fjord-cut eastern coastline, Greenland has one of the most spectacular landscapes in the world. This hiking holiday on the Arctic Circle shows this off to great effect, as we explore amongst the fjords and viewpoint around Ammassalik Island.
Arriving at Kulusuk, we have a day to explore rugged Kulusuk Island on foot, before a long boat transfer takes us north to the remote Inuit village of Kuummiut. Here, we hike beside Tunu Fjord and make an ascent of Kuummiut Mountain m with views that extend to the Greenland Icecap. A second exciting boat transfer then takes us to iceberg-filled Sermilik Fjord, with a stop off at the traditional fishing and hunting settlement at Tiniteqilaaq.
We then spend 2 nights at an isolated and yet cosy refuge at Qaito, where we fit in a couple of exploratory walks amongst rocky peaks and spires, with great views of peaks, glaciers and sparkling icebergs.
During the summer season and especially on the later departures it is usual to see whales, humpback and fin whales as they make their way through the fjords.
Leaving Qaito, we trek across Ammassalik Island to Tasiilaq on the superb Sermilik Trail, a route used by the Inuit especially in winter for many generations.
